Overview

The Home Alone Course is designed for children ages 9-12+ who are preparing to stay home alone for the first time.

Through interactive training, your child will learn how to handle emergencies, make a 911 call, stay safe around the house, and perform basic first aid.

Looking for the Babysitting Course instead? If your child is looking to babysit or care for younger siblings, the Babysitting Course covers childcare skills, first aid, and an introduction to CPR for youth. Available in-person and online.

Course Outline

The Home Alone Course covers these topics in our half day session:

  • How to handle emergency situations
  • How to make a 911 call – interactive training
  • Safety in and around the house – how to prevent injuries
  • Safety in the kitchen
  • What to do when strangers come to the door
  • What to do when the phone rings
  • Computer & internet safety
  • Basic first aid for the following emergencies: Choking, Severe Bleeds, Falls & Minor Wounds, Nosebleeds, Burns

Who Should Take This Course

The Home Alone Course is open to all children and requires no prior training. The course runs at our Barrie & Bracebridge training centres.

Parents are not required to stay.

The program is also a great starting point before taking the Babysitting Course.

No. The Home Alone Course is currently offered in-person only at our Barrie and Bracebridge training centres.

How long is the course?

The Home Alone Course is a half-day, in-person course.

Do parents need to stay during training?

No. Parents are not required to stay. Drop-off and pick-up instructions are provided upon registration.

What should my child bring?

Indoor shoes or slippers and comfortable clothing. Please avoid snacks containing peanuts or tree nuts and advise of any food allergies upon registration.

What if the course date I want is full?

Contact us to be added to the waitlist. We occasionally run additional courses on the same day if there is enough demand.

What is the difference between Home Alone and the Babysitting Course?

The Home Alone Course focuses on helping children ages 9-12+ stay safe at home independently. The Babysitting Course covers childcare skills, first aid, CPR introduction, and job preparation for youth looking to babysit or look after younger siblings.

Can schools or organizations book private group training?

Yes. We offer private group sessions at our training centres or at your location. Contact us to book!

Does my child receive a certificate?

Yes. All participants receive a Certificate of Completion and a Home Alone Booklet.
