AED Event
Frequently Asked Questions
What is an AED event?
An “AED Event" (Automated External Defibrillator) is defined as any event that requires you to turn your AED on and apply pads to a patient. Even if the AED does not indicate a shock, this is still classified as an event, and must be reported to Action First Aid.
Steps to take so that your AED is “ready for use” again:
- If available, place your back-up set of pads into the AED so that your AED is immediately ready for use. If you do not have back-up pads available, the AED may chirp to alert you that it is not ready for use.
- Please do not remove the battery to stop the chirping. Removing the battery can erase all event data from the device.
- Properly wipe down and disinfect your AED and the area the event took place
- Safely discard of any used during the event – e.g. gloves, razor, pocket mask, towel, etc.
- If available, replace your AED First Aid Kit with any item that was used, e.g. new pair of gloves, razor, and towel and pocket mask
What happens after reporting an AED event?
When you report an AED event, either by phone or through ‘Ready for Action’, post-event process begins immediately. After obtaining the details of your event, we will confirm the supplies you need and arrange to download the EGC data from your AED. If this is the case, we will arrange to come to your location with our software to download the EGC data and deliver your required supplies.
For further distance locations, arrangements are made to ship a temporary ‘AED Loaner’ replacement with a return waybill for you to send your used AED back to us. There is no need to send us the used pads, these can be disposed of (plastic parts can be placed in recycle). When we receive your AED we will immediately review the event data to ensure that the AED worked properly. Once this is done we will resupply your AED and ensure it is ready for use and ship it back to you. We will include a self-addressed return waybill to you to send the ‘AED Loaner’ back to us. Place your original AED back in its place and you are ready for rescue!
